You can install the plugin using two methods:
  • Manually via FTP: Extract the ttb-pressarchive.zip file and upload the extracted folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder of your WordPress installation. After uploading, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on the Plugins link in the admin menu. This will take you to your plugins page. Find Press Archive - Ten Thousand Beats and click Activate.
  • WordPress Dashboard: In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins » Add New. Click on the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page. Choose the ttb-pressarchive.zip file from your computer and click Install Now. WordPress will extract and install the plugin for you. Once finished, click the Activate Plugin button.

In order to use the plugin, you need to add and activate your license. In the admin menu, find and click Press Archive. Enter the license code that has been given to you and the associated e-mail address, then click Activate.

Upon activation, you need to flush the permalinks to make sure the pages work properly. To do this, go to Settings » Permalinks, then click Save Changes.

The first step would be creating a page that will serve as your main press archive page. It’s the same as adding it as a standard WordPress page, only with a few additional steps to integrate it with the plugin.
  • Go to New at the WordPress toolbar at the top, and click on Page to add a new page.
  • Alternatively, you can click on Pages in the admin menu, then Add New Page.
  • Add your preferred title — in the video tutorial’s case, it’s Press Archive.
  • Find URL on the right side, change the Permalink to only press, then Publish.
  • Your page is now live. View it and copy the link address.
  • Back to your WordPress dashboard, go to Press, then click on Settings.
  • Paste the link address you copied on the first field labeled Press Archive Link.
  • As noted in the field’s description, make sure there is no slash at the end, as this will affect the links that will be displayed in the Years Grid.
  • Click Save at the bottom of the Settings page.

You can choose how to display the years and the articles. For the years, go to Settings, under the Press admin menu. You will be shown the Years Grid tab by default. Under the Thumbnails section, find the Thumbnail Size field.
...
Landscape

Choose this option if you would like to display the thumbnails with a landscape orientation of 360px x 140px size.

...
Box

Choose this option if you would like to display the thumbnails with a box size of 180px x 180px.

  • Custom Size: There is a third option available to you, Custom, where you can set your preferred image size by entering your desired Width and Height. However, you need to make and use your own custom images with that set size and enter them in the Custom Image URL field for each year. See the Adding Years section below for more details. Furthermore, if you choose this option, you need to add custom images for all years. It’s not possible to apply your custom size to one or two specific years only while the rest makes use of the featured images of your chosen post IDs. Adding featured images will only generate landscape and box-size versions, and those might not display correctly with your specified width and height.
Next, go to the Articles Grid tab. The first field, Display Style, gives you the option to display the articles as a list or as a grid.
...
List

Choose this option if you would like to display the articles for each year as a list. The box-size versions of the featured images you have set for the articles will be used.

...
Grid

Choose this option if you would like to display the articles for each year as a grid. The landscape versions of the featured images you have set for the articles will be used.

Adding articles works the same way as adding standard WordPress pages. To add a new one, go to Press in the admin menu, click on Articles, then Add Article.
  • Article Details: Fill in the corresponding information. Any field you leave blank will not be displayed on the article page. You can refer to the video tutorial above to see an example.
  • Excerpt: If the original article has an excerpt included, you can fill this in. Otherwise, you can leave this blank. The article page will not be affected if you leave this blank, as well as the article’s display in the Articles Grid. It will show the first few words of the article instead.
  • Featured Image: Image size is 1000px x 400px. When adding one, it will also generate a landscape-version in 360px x 140px size, and a box-size version in 180px x 180px size.
  • Custom Thumbnail: You can use this field if you want to use a different image for the article’s thumbnail in the Articles Grid. Just make sure the image size matches with the Display Style you’ve set. Referring to the Years & Articles Display section above, set your custom thumbnail image to 180px x 180px if you’re displaying the articles as a list, or 360px x 140px if you’re displaying them as a grid.

Your main Press Archive page cannot display the years automatically. You will need to add them individually, similar to how you add articles. To add a new year, go to Press in the admin menu, click on Years, then Add Year.
  • Year: Fill in the year as the Title. You also need to set the Published date to the same year. You can refer to the video tutorial above to see an example.
  • Post ID: Your main Press Archive page will display the years as a grid, with a thumbnail attached to each year. You can choose from the articles from a certain year and use its Featured Image (or Custom Thumbnail) as the year’s thumbnail. To do this, you need that chosen article’s post ID. Go to your Articles page, find your preferred article and click Edit. Go to your browser’s address bar and find the number after post=. Copy it, and paste it in this field. You can also refer to the video tutorial above for a demo.
  • Custom Image URL: You can use this field if you want to use a different image for the year’s thumbnail. Just make sure the image size matches with the Thumbnail Size you’ve set. This was explained in the Years & Articles Display section above.

You can adjust the style of the press archive pages to make them match your active theme. Simply go to Settings, under the Press admin menu.

  • Active Theme: Here you can add additional fonts that you want to use. For Custom CSS, you can insert additional CSS properties to adjust your active theme. Most likely, there will be margin and padding issues. You can contact me if you need help with this part. This plugin comes with free support. It would be easier if you could provide me an admin login to your WordPress so I can do the adjustments directly.
